Fans of Indiana Jones who haven't yet encountered Smith's novels will enjoy any of his adventure tales. In his latest a beautiful Egyptian woman with a doctorate in archaeology and a wealthy British adventurer search the Ethiopian highlands for the treasures of an ancient tomb. The pace never flags as the heroes overcome each obstacle between them and the Pharoah's golden fortune. Narrator Cazenove, who has a fine gift for vocal characterization, brings the story to life. His British accent is clear to American listeners. The abridgment doesn't interfere with the substance and pace of the story as it sometimes can.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
