THE MOONLIT JOURNEY by Peter O’Donnell
ANIMALS
Released: April 1, 1991

Concerned that wolves may lurk in the dark beyond his window, Thomas ventures out with his toy bear, grown to giant size. There actually is a friendly fox, plus a stag, horses (one of them in the hillside's chalk)—and the wind, whose howling ``makes every shadow look[ed] like a wolf.'' Still, indoors again, all is safe. The story is familiar, but the art—its rich color and sparkling highlights reminiscent of Wildsmith—is nicely expressive of the night's mysterious thrill and the cozy security of home and bear. A promising debut. (Picture book. 4-7) Read full book review >
