``Hannah's in a temper;/Hannah's in a stew./She's making quite a fuss/And a huge hullabaloo...Oh, what a grumpy day!'' Indeed--sent out to play, the toddler is nipped by caged Bunny and, when she's trying to come in again, she gets caught in the cat door; she writes on a wall and throws food on the floor until finally patient Mama's in a temper too and puts her to bed. In the end, it turns out that Hannah has an identifiable cause for her bad mood when her tooth comes through; meanwhile, the rhythmic verse renders her mishaps and misdemeanors cheerfully comic. Berridge's realistic pencil and watercolor illustrations present mother and child sympathetically, while the teddy bears' astonished expressions suggest that Hannah's behavior is unusual. A likable slice of life, exaggerated just enough to amuse small people who see themselves in Hannah. (Picture book. 2-6)
