KIRKUS REVIEW

The popular nonsense song about a ``capital ship'' with a zany crew (``...the gunner we had was apparently mad,/For he sat on the after-rail/And fired salutes with the captain's boots/In the teeth of the booming gale''), whose catchy tune and rollicking humor have delighted the generations since its appearance in 1885. n gleeful double-spread illustrations that are sure to attract a new audience. Rand adds lots of nifty touches (the captain uses a peacock's feather to ``tickle the crew'') and portrays ``the Gulliby Isles, where the Poohpooh smiles'' with imaginative verve. Music included. (Picture book. 4-10)
