KIRKUS REVIEW

This anthology presents the texts from 18 recent picture books along with some of their illustrations, cropped and rearranged to create an attractive new whole. The styles and themes vary, but all are appropriate for a read-aloud audience of preschool through primary grades, and many could be enjoyed by new readers. Among the selections are Jex Alborough's ``Where's My Teddy?'' (1992), Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury's ``We're Going on a Bear Hunt'' (1989), and a four stories by Martin Waddell, including ``Let's Go Home, Little Bear'' (1993), illustrated by Barbara Firth. Other authors and illustrators are Virginia Austin, Jill Barton, John Burningham, John Butler, Helen Craig, Penny Dale, Derek Hall, Sarah Hayes, Dana Kubick, Kim Lewis, David Lloyd, Dom Mansell, Chris Riddell, Colin Threadgall, Charlotte Voake, and Louise Voce. A wonderful package, and an economical way of bringing a variety of old pros to the shelves. (Picture book. 3-8)
