Someone is killing off the finest chefs in Bath.

Honey Driver is the proprietor of the Green River Hotel and the police liaison for the Bath Hotel Association. Her own chef, Smudger Smith, was so convinced he would win the Bath International Taste Extravaganza (BITE) that he threatened to kill the eventual victor, Oliver Stafford, who prepared for the competition by pinching Smudger’s priceless chicken breasts. Good chefs are hard to find, and when Oliver is found with his throat cut, Honey is thrilled to hear that Smudger has an alibi of sorts. The broth thickens, however, when another chef is found murdered and Bling Broadbent, Oliver’s boozy, man-hungry boss, dies in an alcohol-fueled car crash. Honey has problems at home when her much-divorced mother takes up with meat purveyor Roland Mead, a Rolls Royce owner who lusts after a contract to supply the Green River. Her daughter’s dating choices are no more encouraging. At least Honey’s contacts in the business are a help to her boyfriend, DCI Steve Doherty, as they search for a link between the murder victims. Though both are too occupied with sleuthing to make time for romance, solving the crimes may be just the aphrodisiac they need.

This sequel to Honey’s bright debut (Something in the Blood, 2007) is another hit, with Goodhind’s past experience managing a Bath hotel lending authenticity.
