KIRKUS REVIEW

A short, generously illustrated chapter book about a fourth grader's struggle to complete her ambitious Earth Day project: planting a live oak in a city park. Tanya not only has to raise money to buy the tree; she must also obtain official permission to plant it. It's an uncomplicated school story that may inspire similar cooperative projects, with breezy dialogue among high- spirited classmates, a supportive teacher, and soft b&w pencil drawings portraying an appealingly characterized multi-ethnic group. The paper and binding are made from recycled materials. (Fiction/Young reader. 6-9)
