KIRKUS REVIEW

By the author of Dick Whittington and His Cat (1950) and Henry-Fisherman (1949) a delightful sea and salt air picture book about a cocky Provincetown boy who shipped out as a cook for the crew of a bean-weary fishing boat. The crew of the Liberty Bell were very tired of eating beans, so when Skipper John advertised for a cook, young Si saw his chance to go to sea. Si's blithe commandeering of the kitchen and the author's rollicking flavorsome illustrations are great fun. In all -- a witty, atmospheric story, handsomely decorated in three colors. Second and third year reading.
