KIRKUS REVIEW

From ancient Egypt to the United Nations in a skip and a jump (with side hops in English and United States history). Mr. Leaf's whimsical style and stick-figure illustrations are justly popular, so expect a large market for this one. Beginning with the declaration that "the story of history is really the story of YOU", and a fanciful excursion in a geneological rash of "great-great-greats etc." Mr. Leaf tells the story of long ago people -- the Egyptians, Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Medieval Europeans, Crusaders, Moslems, with their contributions to civilization. Then there is a brief history of the English people, the settling of America, the Revolution, Civil War and America and the world today. Just enough detail for a young child to take -- with gay little scribblings to make history really fun.
