KIRKUS REVIEW

Little Amish Naomi gets her wish to have something fancy when she finds an odd egg that hatches into a bird so beautiful that Naomi is terrified he will be "shunned": a peacock. It's all right, however: "Fancy" is "God's handiwork." For readers willing to accept the egg's unlikely arrival, a pleasant story introducing several Amish customs and beliefs, beautifully illustrated in Polacco's vigorous, expressive style.
