Murder, piracy and reef conservation in the Java Sea.

The wedding of Pulau Baya’s Prince Sailendra to Swedish lovely Inga Nordberg hits a snag when the matron of honor, Robin Mariner, and her husband Richard, spending a few hours before the ceremony on their posh cruiser, the Tai Fun, discover a dead boatman and a scuba diver drifting in the Java Sea and their companion barely clinging to life as gas pumps through her oxygen hoses. The Prince’s security chief and his assistant, Captain Kalla and Hilly, provide assistance ashore, but not before a band of pirates surround the Tai Fun and the crew must be rescued. Worse yet, the prince’s personal secretary has his throat slit, and the dead scuba divers are identified as an undercover police detective and Dr. Lok, a world-famous conservationist. Employing Sherlockian reasoning, Richard identifies as suspects the nabobs at Bogor Biofuels, Pontianac Oil Enterprise and DelMonte Medical Facilities, all of whom answer to the corporate genius behind Luzon Logging. A downturn in Malaysian economics spells trouble for key players. Threats force a polio victim’s family member to switch loyalties. Plans to announce the newest jewel in the seven-star luxury Greenbaum International Volcano Roads Hotel chain must be sidelined. And many more dead bodies will splash into the sea before connubial bliss is achieved and the Mariners can set sail on another adventure.

Enough plot to fill the seven seas. But the Mariners (Benin Light, 2008, etc.) are convivial superheroes, and the milieu is certainly appealing.
