KIRKUS REVIEW

Hofsepian's smoothly told first book is about a solemn widower who asks a cheerful bread-peddler to find a cat to keep him company; she gives him one of hers, and when that cat proves to be lonely she gives him her other one. Only then does he realize that he especially likes her company and counsel, so they marry--why not? Henstra's quiet, idiosyncratic illustrations are just right for this sweet story about accepting whatever happiness life chances to offer. Quiet, but there's enough amusing action to hold attention; a story that will appeal beyond the picture book age. (Picture book. 4+)
