Barry Diller stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers to discuss his new memoir with the talk show host.
The business executive and media mogul’s Who Knew: My Story was published by Simon & Schuster last month; the book made headlines when it was revealed that Diller comes out as gay. A critic for Kirkus called the book “highly instructive for would-be tycoons, with plenty of entertaining interludes.”
Meyers noted that Diller does not enjoy being the center of attention, and said, “I think you maybe forgot that when you wrote a book, you’d have to do press about the book.”
“I’m kind of sick of the sound of my own voice, but I’ll try,” Diller responded.
“Was it hard for you looking back at the fullness of your career to remember details?” Meyers asked. “What is your relationship with your memory after doing something like this?”
“If you ask me my name right now, I have no clue,” Diller said. “When I started, I had nothing in my head. I thought, Well, I remember nothing. What the hell am I going to do here? I’m going to write this. I could make it up. It’d probably be a better story. But what happens is…things start coming. And shockingly to me, I got this incredible flow of memories that I never thought I’d remember again.”
