Listening Library and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s LW Entertainment have revealed the cast that will perform the audiobook edition of Erin A. Craig’s Our Strange Duet.
Craig’s young adult romance, scheduled for publication later this summer by Delacorte, reimagines Lloyd Webber’s 1986 musical The Phantom of the Opera with a focus on the character Christine Daaé, a soprano torn between her childhood friend Raoul and the enigmatic Phantom. A critic for Kirkus called the book a “captivating riff on a beloved classic.”
The audiobook edition of the novel will incorporate “a special selection of official musical elements” from Lloyd Webber’s musical, Listening Library and LW Entertainment say.
Beatrice Penny-Touré will play Christine in the audiobook, with Jordan Donica lending his voice to the Phantom; both have previously performed in stage productions of The Phantom of the Opera. Jordan Fisher (Dear Evan Hansen) will play Raoul.
The cast will also include Sierra Boggess and Norm Lewis, two other Phantom veterans, as well as Katrina Lenk (Company), Stephanie Styles (Kiss Me, Kate), and television actors Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family) and Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey).
Penny-Touré said in a statement, “It’s been a magical experience recording this audiobook, and it’s something I’ve never done before. And it is very special that it is a story that is so close to my heart, and very relevant in my life right now.”
All editions of Our Strange Duet are slated for release on Sept. 1.
