Ali Hazelwood’s latest novel is getting a film adaptation, Deadline reports.
Netflix is developing a movie based on the author’s Deep End, published by Berkley last year. The novel follows Scarlett Vandermeer, a Stanford University diver who enters into a kinky sexual relationship with Lukas Blomqvist, a champion swimmer. A critic for Kirkus called the book “a surprisingly sensual sports romance.”
Laura Kosann (The Social Ones) will write the screenplay for the adaptation. Producers of the Deep End adaptation include Alex Cooper, the Call Her Daddy podcaster, and Shawn Levy, the director who has executive produced the series Stranger Things and All the Light We Cannot See. Hazelwood will be among the executive producers of the Deep End film.
Hazelwood’s debut novel, The Love Hypothesis, is being adapted into a film directed by Claire Scanlon and starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman; it’s scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on Sept. 23. In June, Amazon MGM Studios announced it will develop Hazelwood’s Love, Theoretically as a film with Sofia Alvarez writing and directing and It Ends With Usauthor Colleen Hoover producing.
