Crockett Johnson’s Harold and the Purple Crayon is headed to the big screen, and Sony Pictures has released the first posters for the film adaptation, Collider reports.

Johnson’s children’s book, now considered a classic, was first published in 1955 by HarperCollins. The book follows a young boy who decides to take a walk in the moonlight, drawing landscapes for himself with the titular implement. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “You'll laugh at this. Good stitches.”

The book spawned several sequels, including Harold’s Fairy Tale, Harold’s Trip to the Sky, and Harold at the North Pole; books in the series were adapted into an HBO Family series that ran for one season from 2001 to 2002, with Sharon Stone as the narrator.

The new adaptation features Harold as an adult, played by Zachary Levi (Shazam!), with other cast members including Zooey Deschanel (New Girl), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), and Ravi Patel (Wonder Woman 1984).

The film is written by David Guion and Michael Handelman, who previously collaborated on Dinner for Schmucks and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, and directed by Carlos Saldanha (Rio, Ferdinand). It is slated for release on Aug. 2.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Levi shared the two new posters, both featuring the tagline “Everything he draws is about to get real.” Levi wrote, “We about to paint this town PURPLE, y’all! Hittin’ theaters this August! Crayon those calendars!!!”
