Jessica Knoll stopped by Good Morning America to discuss her latest novel, Helpless.
Knoll’s thriller, published Tuesday by Scribner, is being developed as a television series by Universal Global Television, with Knoll writing and executive-producing. Knoll also discussed her novel with Kirkus editor at large Megan Labrise on the Fully Booked podcast this week.
Good Morning America co-host Lara Spencer asked Knoll how she would describe her novel, about which a Kirkus critic wrote, “Puts the ‘erotic’ back in ‘erotic thriller.’”
“Helpless follows Faye Heron as she returns to her college campus to attend the funeral of her beloved film professor,” Knoll said. “In the time since she’s graduated, she’s gone on to become a successful writer/director and actress in Hollywood. While she’s there, she has a run-in with her college ex-boyfriend with [whom] she had a singular and intense connection, and their reunion turns into an apology, a drink, and eventually a kidnapping.”
Knoll also shared recommendations of three summer reads: Single Girls by John Searles, which she called “very close to my heart”; Buyer Beware by Catherine Ryan Howard, which she warned “may scare you”; and Night Objects by Eli Raphael, which she said features “absolutely beautiful writing.”
