Three new books by Annie Ernaux will be published in the U.S. later this year.
Seven Stories will publish English-language translations of three works by the French Nobel Prize-winning author, the press announced in a news release.
Ernaux, an educator, is known for her works of autobiographical fiction and nonfiction. She made her literary debut in 1974 with the novel Cleaned Out and went on to write fiction such as Simple Passion, translated by Tanya Leslie; A Frozen Woman, translated by Linda Coverdale; and The Young Man and The Other Girl, both translated by Alison L. Strayer.
In 2022, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. The Swedish Academy cited her “for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory.”
The new books being published by Seven Stories are Hotel Casanova, a collection of brief fiction and nonfiction pieces, translated by Strayer; A Conversation, an exchange between Ernaux and sociologist Rose-Marie Lagrave; and Writing, the Other Life, a visual celebration of her work, edited by Pierre-Louis Fort and translated by six people, including Strayer and Ros Schwartz.
Hotel Casanova and A Conversation are set for publication on Oct. 6. Writing, the Other Life will follow on Oct. 27.
