Rebecca Yarros will return readers to the Empyrean world with a story collection coming later this year.

Entangled will publish Yarros’ Threshing Day in the fall, the author announced on Instagram. While the stories are set in the same world as her massively popular Empyrean series of romantasy novels, the book is not the fourth installment in the series.

The Empyrean series kicked off in 2023 with Fourth Wing, which follows Violet Sorrengail, a 20-year-old woman studying to become a dragon rider at Basgiath War College. The book, buoyed by buzz on TikTok, became a massive bestseller, as did the next two installments in the series, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm.

A series adaptation of Fourth Wing is currently being developed by Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios; actor Michael B. Jordan is among its executive producers.

On Instagram, Yarros wrote, “This collection contains thirteen threshing stories about some of your favorite characters and their dragons.…I hope this gives you a fun trip back to Basgiath while I’m writing book four!”

Threshing Day is, technically, a bestseller already. In April, a book with no title or cover image, listed only as “Untitled Empyrean (Not Book Four),” shot up Amazon’s charts. Yarros reacted to the news on Instagram, writing, “Okay, so I had this little idea about a year ago to drop a surprise for you guys. But then you not only found it as soon as my publisher put it on preorder, but shot it straight to number one on Amazon without a cover, title, or even a vague idea of what might be coming your way!?!? You’ve rendered me speechless.”

The Amazon page for “Untitled Empyrean” now lists the book in question as Threshing Day, which is set for publication on Sept. 29.
