Ashley Poston’s The Dead Romantics is the newest pick for the Good Morning America book club.

Poston’s novel, her first for adults, was published Tuesday by Berkley. The book follows Florence, a romance ghostwriter who travels back to her hometown for her father’s funeral. While there, she encounters the ghost of her editor, Ben, who’s not quite sure what he’s doing there.

A critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “The ghostly element is fun and fresh, adding slightly higher stakes to Florence and Ben’s happily-ever-after. A sweet and sparkling adult debut.”

GMA’s weekend co-anchor, Eva Pilgrim, introduced the book on the show, noting that like her, Poston is from South Carolina.

“She really does bring that signature Southern charm and wit to this month’s pick,” Pilgrim said. “There are so many good twists in this book.”

Poston is known for her young adult romance novels, including Geekerella, The Princess and the Fangirl, and Bookish and the Beast.

“It’s a ghost story,” Poston said of her new book. “Not only is it a ghost story, but it is a ghost romance. So it’s a little bit sexy and a little bit fun and a little bit swoony, and a lot dead. It is my ode to romance novels—all of them. I am a connoisseur of romance, and if you are too, I really hope you find some joy in The Dead Romantics.”
