The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced its nominations for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, with several literary adaptations earning nods for the annual TV prizes.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on George R.R. Martin’s trilogy of novellas, earned nine nods, including drama series, music composition, and several technical awards.
Also earning nine nominations was Slow Horses, the adaptation of Mick Herron’s Slough House series of spy novels, which received nods in categories including drama series, lead actor in a drama series (Gary Oldman), supporting actor in a drama series (Jack Lowden), and guest actor in a drama series (Jonathan Pryce).
The series adaptation of Rufi Thorpe’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles scored eight nominations, including ones for comedy series, lead actress in a comedy series (Elle Fanning), supporting actress in a comedy series (Michelle Pfeiffer), and supporting actor in a comedy series (Nick Offerman). Palm Royale, based on Mr. & Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel, also earned eight nods.
Other adaptations earning nominations include All Her Fault, based on Andrea Mara’s novel; Love Story, inspired by Elizabeth Beller’s Once Upon a Time; Remarkably Bright Creatures, based on Shelby Van Pelt’s novel; The Morning Show, inspired by Brian Stelter’s Top of the Morning; The Testaments, based on Margaret Atwood’s novel; and People We Meet on Vacation, based on Emily Henry’s novel.
The year’s buzziest adaptation, Heated Rivalry, based on Rachel Reid’s series of novels, was ineligible for Emmy consideration because it is a fully Canadian production.
The winners of this year’s Emmy Awards will be revealed on Sept. 14 at a televised ceremony in Los Angeles.
