Narrator Will Damron displays a skillful range in this thriller. Harry perfects pickpocketing and cracking safes at a young age--skills born of necessity because his loving but poor family struggles to make ends meet. Need evolves into a lifestyle as Harry continues his nighttime burglaries to create a life of travel and academia. But when Harry falls in love with Miranda, his desire to settle down coincides with a past mistake that comes back to haunt him. Harry leaves Miranda to protect her, but the two are drawn together again, and Harry must face an old associate who doesn't share his code of honor. Damron seamlessly transitions among many accents, deepening a twang and elongating vowels, and he portrays sisterly love with a fierce tone that conveys protectiveness.

In this sequel to Terms of Endearment, Larry McMurtry brings back Aurora Greenway, who is now dealing with her various lovers and friends plus three grown grandchildren with a variety of problems. He presents a tale of growing up and growing old which is bittersweet and funny. Narrator Ivey uses a slight east Texas accent which authenticates the setting of the story. Each character's voice has a slightly different inflection to differentiate it. It all works together well. As you listen, you feel as if you might actually be in Houston sharing the lives of these resilient and refreshing people.
