A mediocre outing reflects one feline’s lengthy search for the perfect spot to sleep. In rhyming couplets, one possible resting place after another is discarded. “I could sleep in the vegetable patch / but I’d be looking for bunnies to catch. / I could sleep with the chicken flock / but they stay up late and talk, talk, talk.” Even indoors the pudgy, unapologetically cute kitten finds that perfect spots are elusive—some already taken, others too small. But of course, in the end, readers will agree that the little cat found just the right place to sleep after all. While the trim is a modest nine-by-nine, the huge close-up illustrations still make this a good choice for sharing with a group. Indeed, the artwork is better viewed from afar, since up close some edges appear fuzzy and indistinct. An extra purchase for libraries with a large population of cat lovers. (Picture book. 3-5)
