KIRKUS REVIEW

Cassie Howard, 15, believes that everyone has one talent, but that they are not all created equally. Some people have flashy talents, like the ability to sing or dance. Others have quirky talents, like being able to tell the exact time without a watch or always being able to find a great parking spot. Others suffer with a talent like always choosing the slowest moving line. Cassie’s talent is always coming in second place, which she doesn’t usually mind unless first place goes to her nemesis, Sterling. When cute, clever and smart Kevin transfers to their school, Cassie and Sterling face off in a battle that lands Cassie in detention, convinces her to run for Snow Queen and might just attract Kevin’s attention. Reading like a Hilary Duff movie, this will satisfy those whose tastes are unsophisticated enough not to want more from their reading than a good comeuppance for the archrival of the good girl. (Fiction. 10-12)
