KIRKUS REVIEW

Junk Mr. Burroughs knows and junk he writes. His latest embarrassment of scatological graffiti makes his Naked Lunch go down like an egg flip. The Soft Machine is picaresque pornography, obfuscated by sodomy, sado-masochism, pederasty, and necrophilia. It is also extremely boring. The title refers to the flaccid equipment of a homosexual and the scene is for the most part Peru, through which he travels. It is impossible to describe the book further except in terms of obscenity and opprobrium.
