Random House is making Mario Puzo fans an offer they can’t refuse.

Next year, the press will publish Connie, a new novel in the Godfather series that is written by Adriana Trigiani. The publisher says in a news release the book will be “a reimagining of events of The Godfather through the perspective of Don Vito Corleone’s only daughter.”

Puzo’s The Godfather, published in 1969 by Putnam, follows the Corleone Mafia family in post–World War II New York as they go to war with rival mobsters. The novel was adapted into a series of three films, the first two of which won the Academy Award for best picture.

Puzo wrote a sequel to the novel, The Sicilian, which was published by Simon & Schuster in 1984. After Puzo’s death in 1999, his estate authorized three more novels in the series: The Godfather Returns (2004) and The Godfather’s Revenge (2006), both written by Mark Winegardner, and The Family Corleone (2012), written by Ed Falco.

The new installment by Trigiani, known for novels including The Shoemaker’s Wife and The View From Lake Como, will focus on Connie Corleone, the youngest child of Mafia boss Vito Corleone. Connie was played in the film adaptations by Talia Shire.

Connie is a novel about how a woman works to forge her own way in a world that’s already decided who she is, what she’s about, and how she should be treated,” Trigiani said in a statement. “People underestimated Don Vito Corleone and Michael Corleone at their peril. The same will be true for Connie Corleone.”

Connie is slated for publication in the fall of 2027.
