Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell will make her off-Broadway debut with a solo show set to premiere this December at the Daryl Roth Theatre in Manhattan.
The play, Is There Still Sex in the City?, shares its title with Bushnell’s 2019 novel, which a reviewer for Kirkus called “sometimes funny, sometimes silly, sometimes quite sad—i.e., an accurate portrait of life in one’s 50s.”
Bushnell wrote and will star in the show, which will be directed by Lorin Latarro. The play premiered in June at the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, Pennsylvania.
“Working in the theater has been a lifelong dream since I first came to New York,” Bushnell said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to share my story at The Daryl Roth Theatre. This is an evening to laugh, cry, celebrate and most of all, come with your friends and make some new ones too!”
A publicist for Bushnell said the show will feature her “saucy humor and spot-on insights into life, love, relationships.”
In a June interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Bushnell said the show is about “girlfriends.”
“You know, we live in a patriarchal society,” Bushnell said. “And you know what I want to say to women? Make the money and run, girls! Take care of yourselves. Take care of your friendships. Be your own Mr. Big.”
Bushnell’s off-Broadway show will begin previews on Nov. 17 and opens on Dec. 7.
