Amy Schumer is reaching out to a very different kind of audience with her latest book.

The comedian and actor, known for her raunchy and unfiltered jokes, has a children’s book coming in 2027, People magazine reports. Abrams Books for Young Readers will publish Schumer’s A Joke of Her Own, illustrated by Beth Mills, next winter. It calls the book “a hilarious story about finding your voice that’s sure to inspire the next generation of comedians.”

Schumer first made national waves after appearing on the reality competition series Last Comic Standing in 2007. She made frequent television appearances before getting her own show, Inside Amy Schumer, which aired on Comedy Central from 2013 to 2016 and on Paramount+ in 2022. She has appeared in films including Trainwreck, Bros, and Unfrosted.

She published an autobiography, The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo, in 2016. A reviewer for Kirkus called the book “a hilarious and effective memoir from a woman with zero inhibitions.”

A Joke of Her Own will follow Bethany, a young girl who’s determined to get people to laugh with her, not at her. She enlists her pet poodle to help her craft a joke that will leave others in stitches.

“I think kids also get frustrated a lot when they aren’t just great at something right away, and you have to teach them over and over again that it’s all about practicing and working really hard,” Schumer told People. “I remember getting in trouble a lot for making people laugh, and I hope to encourage more teachers, more parents, to have laughter be a part of raising their children and looked at as a positive thing when a kid shows an affinity for comedy.”

A Joke of Her Own is scheduled for publication on March 9, 2027.
