Heather Gudenkauf’s Not a Sound is headed to the small screen, with Ellen Pompeo on board to star, Deadline reports.
Gudenkauf’s thriller, published in 2017 by Park Row Books, tells the story of Amelia Winn, a nurse who loses her hearing in an accident and then loses her job and family. After putting her life back together with the help of a hearing dog, she discovers the body of another nurse she used to know and is drawn into the investigation of her death. A Kirkus critic wrote of the book, “Come for the mystery; stay for the taut suspense, the unique heroine—and of course, the ugly, loyal dog.”
Hulu is developing the series adaptation, which will be written by Matthew Tinker (Big Little Lies) and Annakate Chappell (Tracker). Azazel Jacobs (French Exit) is on board to direct, and executive producers include David E. Kelley (Nine Perfect Strangers, Margo’s Got Money Troubles) and Pompeo.
Pompeo will star as Amelia. She’s well known for having played another medical professional: Dr. Meredith Grey on Grey’s Anatomy.
Gudenkauf shared news of the adaptation on Instagram, writing, “To see this story making its way to the screen with such an incredible team is a dream come true. I can’t wait to see where they take it.”
