The finalists for the Hugo Awards, given annually to outstanding works of science fiction, have been revealed.

Nnedi Okorafor made the best novel shortlist for Death of the Author, alongside Robert Jackson Bennett for A Drop of Corruption, Adrian Tchaikovsky for Shroud, Alix E. Harrow for The Everlasting, Emily Tesh for The Incandescent, and Antonia Hodgson for The Raven Scholar.

The finalists for the best novella award are Automatic Noodle by Annalee Newitz, Cinder House by Freya Marske, Murder by Memory by Olivia Waite, The River Has Roots by Amal El-Mohtar, The Summer War by Naomi Novik, and What Stalks the Deep by T. Kingfisher.

Making the shortlist for the Lodestar Award for best YA book were Among Ghosts by Rachel Hartman, Coffeeshop in an Alternate Universe by C.B. Lee, Holy Terrors by Margaret Owen, Oathbound by Tracy Deonn, Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins, and They Bloom at Night by Trang Thanh Tran.

The Hugo Awards were established in 1953. Previous winners include Frank Herbert for Dune; Ursula K. Le Guin for The Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed; and N.K. Jemisin for The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, and The Stone Sky.

The winners of this year’s awards will be announced at the convention LAcon V in Anaheim, California, on Aug. 30. A full list of finalists is available at the Hugo Awards website.
