So good, it burns: Rosebud Baker’s blisteringly funny debut memoir, ‘Fully Baked.’
On this episode of Fully Booked, stand-up comedian and veteran SNL writer Rosebud Baker joins us to discuss Fully Baked: A Messy Memoir (Gallery Books, June 9), which Kirkus calls “a scathingly funny memoir about a late-bloomer’s wild ride from debauched youth to motherhood and comedy success.”
Baker is a comedian, actor, and Emmy-nominated writer who wrote for Saturday Night Live from 2022 to 2025. She has written and performed on That Damn Michael Che and Inside Amy Schumer, for which she won a WGA Award. Her debut stand-up special, Whiskey Fists, premiered on YouTube in 2021, and her Netflix special, The Mother Lode, dropped in 2025. She’s based in New York, where she lives and works (when she’s not on a plane to go live and work somewhere else).
Here’s a bit more from our review of Fully Baked: “It’s a good thing Baker is deft at mining the humor in dark moments. Otherwise, her story could read as tragic. The granddaughter of former White House Chief of Staff James Baker, she defies her upper-crust pedigree to become a standup comic and writer for Saturday Night Live and Inside Amy Schumer. The journey is anything but easy.…She spends years pursuing a career as a dramatic actress in New York City but doesn’t find success until she turns to comedy…Along the way, she meets future husband and fellow comic Andy ‘I Pay My Taxes on Time’ Haynes, whose normcore family values help Baker heal her rifts with family members and start a family of her own. Don’t be fooled by the Hallmark ending, though. Baker never loses her sarcastic edge, despite living happily ever after.”
Baker shares the reason for the “messy” subtitle, the story of confirming her pregnancy while working at 30 Rock, and growing up as the granddaughter of James Baker. We delve into WASP culture, including but not limited to funerary rites. We discuss comedy and tragedy, the editing process, and the harrowing prospect of having family members read the book.
At the end of our interview, Baker recommends to listeners a book that influenced her approach to performing (and life).
