The Golden Globe nominations were announced Monday, with 16 movies and television series based on books in the running for the annual awards.

Ana de Armas scored a nomination for best actress in a drama motion picture for her performance in the film adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ novel Blonde, while Adam Driver was nominated for best actor in a musical or comedy motion picture for the film based on Don DeLillo’s White Noise. Lesley Manville earned a nomination for best actress in a musical or comedy film for Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, an adaptation of Paul Gallico’s novel Mrs. ’Arris Goes to Paris.

Carey Mulligan got a nod in the best supporting actress category in a film for She Said, based on Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey’s book, with Eddie Redmayne earning a nomination for best supporting actor in a movie for the adaptation of Charles Graeber’s book The Good Nurse.

Sarah Polley was nominated for best motion picture screenplay for her adaptation of Miriam Toews’ Women Talking.

Two of the films nominated for best animated movie were based on works of literature: Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio, based on the classic Carlo Collodi novel, and Inu-Oh, an adaptation of Hideo Furukawa’s novel Tales of the Heike: Inu-Oh. And the new film adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s classic novel All Quiet on the Western Front earned a nod in the non-English language film category.

Taylor Swift was among the nominees in the best original song in a motion picture category for “Carolina,” from the film adaptation of Delia Owens’ Where the Crawdads Sing, along with Alexandre Desplat, Roeban Katz, and Guillermo del Toro for “Ciao Papa” from Pinocchio.

In television, House of the Dragon, based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, was nominated for best drama series and best actress in a drama series (Emma d’Arcy).

Kaley Cuoco got a nod for best actress in a musical or comedy series for The Flight Attendant, based on Chris Bohjalian’s novel, while Jessica Chastain was nominated for best actress in a limited or anthology series or TV movie for George & Tammy, based on Georgette Jones’ The Three of Us: Growing Up with Tammy and George.

The miniseries adaptation of Jon Krakauer’s Under the Banner of Heaven garnered two acting nods, for Andrew Garfield (best actor) and Daisy Edgar-Jones (best supporting actress). Claire Danes was also nominated for best supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or TV movie for the miniseries adaptation of Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s Fleishman Is in Trouble.

Black Bird, the miniseries based on the book In With the Devil by James Keene with Hillel Levin, earned three nods: limited or anthology series or TV movie, best actor (Taron Egerton) and Paul Walter Houser (best supporting actor).

The winners of the Golden Globes will be announced at a televised ceremony on Jan. 10, 2023.
