An actor familiar to Louise Penny fans will lend his voice to the author’s latest audiobook.
Alfred Molina will narrate the Canadian author’s Miss Wolcott’s Ghost, Macmillan Audio announced in a news release. A critic for Kirkus called the novel, the 21st installment in Penny’s series featuring Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, “a superpowered mystery shrouded in mysticism and history whose power endures past its closing revelations.” Molina will also narrate the next four books in the Gamache series.
Molina played Gamache in Three Pines, the Amazon Prime Video series based on Penny’s novels. It ran for one season in 2022.
Penny’s previous Gamache novels were narrated by a variety of voice actors, including Ralph Cosham, Robert Bathurst, and Jean Brassard. Molina has narrated dozens of audiobooks, such as Leonardo da Vinci by Walter Isaacson, The Wandering Hill by Larry McMurtry, and The Beatles by Bob Spitz.
“What a great actor and, as important for me, a wonderful man,” Penny said in a statement. “After portraying Gamache in the TV series, Fred has become a valued friend, which makes this event all the more special. Having read all the books, Fred knows these characters, cares about them, and is the perfect choice for bringing the world of Three Pines to life.”
And Molina said, “It’s such an honor to be able to voice these audiobooks and continue my relationship with Louise Penny’s incredible work. Stepping into the world of Three Pines again, this time through the listeners’ ears, is a privilege. I look forward to bringing Chief Inspector Gamache and his entire world to life for the millions of fans who love this series.”
The print and audio editions of Miss Wolcott’s Ghost are scheduled for release on Oct. 20.
