Carolyn Huynh’s The Fortunes of Jaded Women is the latest pick for Good Morning America’s book club.

Huynh’s debut novel, published Tuesday by Atria, tells the story of a family of Vietnamese American women in Orange County, California, who are forced to get over their estrangement from one another after one of them visits a psychic who makes a startling prediction. A critic for Kirkus called the book “a funny, sharp, and insightful look at family bonds and the effects of tradition on modern life.”

“It’s a story about mother-daughter relationships, assimilation, hope, a sprinkle of magical realism, and most of all, Vietnamese American joy,” Huynh said on the morning show.

Huynh shared news of her book’s selection for the club on Twitter, writing, “SECRET IS OUT…YR GORL IS @GMA’S SEPTEMBER BOOK CLUB PICK!!! All my heart to those who have made this happen @AtriaBooks @loanloan @NewLeafLiterary @stephaniemkim and to the wonderful GMA team!”

The Good Morning America book club launched in October 2019 with Angie Cruz’s Dominicana as its first selection. Other books picked for the club include Rosie Walsh’s The Love of My Life, Katie Gutierrez’s More Than You’ll Ever Know, and Christine Pride and Jo Piazza’s We Are Not Like Them.
