Kazuo Ishiguro’s first novel since 2021 is coming next year.
Alfred A. Knopf will publish the Nobel Prize–winning author’s Miss Lambert Steps Aboard Danger in the winter of 2027, the press announced in a news release. It calls the novel “an exquisite spy novel—a disarming and memorable caper, in which not everything is quite as it seems.”
Ishiguro, the author of novels including The Remains of the Day, The Unconsoled, Never Let Me Go, and Klara and the Sun, is one of the U.K.’s most respected authors. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2017, with the Swedish Academy praising his “novels of great emotional force.”
Miss Lambert Steps Aboard Danger, Knopf says, will follow Richard Hadley, a man in 1938 London who connects with the title character, a mysterious figure who says that she is about to make an important discovery.
Jordan Pavlin, the publisher and editor in chief of Knopf, said in a statement, “Miss Lambert Steps Aboard Danger is an enchantment—and it is a marvelous thing to see the great Nobel Laureate Kazuo Ishiguro at play. Part caper, part spy novel, part Wodehousean comedy of manners, the novel’s light touch belies a wondrously rich emotional landscape. Miss Lambert Steps Aboard Danger is scheduled for publication on March 9, 2027.
