Andrew Morton, known for his biographies of British royals, will tell the story of the life of Queen Elizabeth II in a new biography.
Grand Central will publish Morton’s The Queen: Her Life this fall, the press announced in a news release, calling the book “the definitive account of the legendary reign of the longest serving British monarch in history written by one of the most respected biographers of the British royal family.”
The announcement comes just six days after Elizabeth died at the age of 96. Her eldest son, now King Charles III, ascended to the throne after her passing.
Morton is the author of several biographies of the British royal family, including Duchess: An Intimate Portrait of Sarah, Duchess of York; Diana: Her New Life; and William and Catherine: Their Story. His most recent book, Elizabeth & Margaret: The Intimate World of the Windsor Sisters, examined the relationship between Elizabeth and her sister, Princess Margaret.
“Throughout the many shocks and surprises that studded her reign she stood for service, dedication, and duty, patiently watching the passing parade, often with a twinkle in her eye and an amused appreciation of the absurd,” Morton said in a statement. “Teasing out the character of the woman behind the impassive mask has been one of the challenges and fascinations of this biography.”
The Queen: Her Life is slated for publication on Nov. 15.
