Brooke Shields’ upcoming book on aging now has a title, cover, and publication date, People magazine reports.
Flatiron will publish Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Old, written by the actor and Rachel Bertsche, in the winter. The press describes the book, which was initially announced last August, as “an intimate and empowering exploration of aging that flips the script on the idea of what it means for a woman to grow older.”
Shields, 59, had her acting breakthrough in 1978 as the star of Louis Malle’s controversial Pretty Baby and later became a star after her performances in The Blue Lagoon and Endless Love. She took a break from acting in 1983 to attend Princeton University and had a career resurgence in the 1990s with her starring role on the sitcom Suddenly Susan.
Her previous books include two memoirs, Down Came the Rain and There Was a Little Girl, and a children’s book, Welcome to Your World, Baby, illustrated by Cori Doerrfeld.
In her new book, Flatiron says, Shields “bares all, painting a vibrant and optimistic picture of being a woman in the prime of her life, while dismantling the myths that have, for too long, dimmed that perception. Sharing her own life experiences with humor and humility, and weaving together research and reporting, Brooke takes aim at the systemic factors that contribute to age-related bias.”
Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Old is slated for publication on Jan. 14, 2025.
