Shailene Woodley has joined the cast of Showtime’s television adaptation of Lisa Taddeo’s book Three Women, Deadline reports.
Taddeo’s 2019 nonfiction book tells the story of the sex lives of three women in America, including a teenager named Maggie having a sexual relationship with her teacher, a homemaker named Lina embarking on an affair with a lover from her past, and Sloane, a restaurateur in an open marriage. A reviewer for Kirkus called the book “dramatic, immersive, and wanting—much like desire itself.”
Woodley is set to play Gia, a writer who convinces the women to share their stories with her.
Woodley is known for her roles in the television series The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Big Little Lies. Her recent work has included a starring role in The Last Letter From Your Lover, a film based on Jojo Moyes’ novel.
Taddeo will serve as an executive producer of Three Women, along with Laura Eason, Kathy Ciric, Emmy Rossum, and Louise Friedberg, who will also direct the first two episodes of the show.
Amy Israel, an executive vice president for Showtime, praised Woodley as an “undeniable powerhouse.”
“We are beyond thrilled that she will be at the forefront of this electrifying show,” Israel said. “Three Women promises to be a riveting and immersive exploration of female desire, told by women in charge of their own narratives.”
